BOTANICAL MAGAZINE 3RD SERIES, 47 volumes.

Binding Materials: Various including mainly ¼ calf
with sprinkled paper sides and full victorian cloth.
Construction: Hollow back, sunken cord sewing,
some with faux raised bands.

Damage to Paper: Some tears in title pages.
Damage to Construction: Most boards and endpapers unsalvageable for the scope of such a large set.
Damage to Binding:  Most bindings deteriorated due to mould and insect damage.
All cover material unsalvageable for the scope of such a large set.
Restoration of Textblock:  Minor paper repairs.
Remarks: This set had one original binding in tact from which to copy.  The remaining original bindings were of various styles and bound at
different periods.  Original is binding on right.

Construction of Binding: New hand marbled endpapers, lined with
Hanamuhle Ingres.  Stick-on endbands applied using luthier-grade
hot animal glue. All spines relined with Japanese paper, mull
(extending out at joints), and hollows (Hanamuhle Ingres) using
luthier-grade hot animal glue. Faux raised bands attached. New
boards attached with mull at joint, strengthen original boards with
mull at joints. New ¼ calf bindings (Hewitt’s calf, hand dyed) with
paste as adhesive.  Cover boards with handmade sprinkled paper to
match original with paste as adhesive. Goat leather labels adhered
with paste, hand coloured to match original. Hand tool spines as
original.
